Goodbye Old Forums, Hello New...

We're having a bit of a change around in our forums. To help keep things current, we've retired the sections for The Whisperer magazine, the Kult of Keepers and The Unbound Book (with the agreement of their Moderators) as they had essentially become defunct.

We've changed the old 'Magazines' forum to be a more general 'Publishers' forum and so rising to take their place in the new structure we welcome new forums for Misaktonic River Press and Pagan Publishing, with the old Black Seal forum transmogrifying into The Black Seal and Sixtystone Press.

Hopefully this will help provide a more co-ordinated voice for some of the new (and old!) licensees on YSDC. Onwards and upwards as they say.

Pagan Publishing Releases 'Final Flight'

This one seems to have snuck in under the radar (so to speak). Pagan Publishing is now shipping Final Flight a Classic era adventure for Call of Cthulhu.

Your party suffers a plane crash over the jungles of South America, the survivors must endure and overcome the 'green hell' of the rainforest along with other, less pleasant things...

Final Flight was written by John H. Crowe III, edited by Brian Appleton and illustrated by Rick Sardina, Marius Hamilton and Heather Hudson. The adventure should be appearing on the shelves of games shops in the next couple of weeks.

'Masks of Nyarlathotep' Now Available as a Chaosium PDF

Chaosium continues with their new line of PDF releases. Following on from their recent round of Call of Cthulhu & BRP PDFs and the release of the PDF-only Rise of the Dead monograph, Chaosium have now issued the classic campaign, the Masks of Nyarlathotep in electronic form.

The Complete Masks of Nyarlathotep PDF is priced at $22.95 (US), and the release of such a seminal Call of Cthulhu campaign seems to signal Chaosium's new commitment to distribution in this format.

Does this mean we can expect to see Beyond the Mountains of Madness and Horror on the Orient Express as PDF releases? We don't know, but the release of Masks would indicate it's not beyond the realms of possibility. Personally I like having a PDF copy in tandem with a print version. With the former I can search the text and print out maps & handouts and with the latter, I can actually read and browse and get that tactile feedback that's hard to replicate any other way.

Here's hoping tandem format releases become the norm...

Yog-Sothoth: Boon or Bane? - YSDC Seminar at Tentacles 2008

While we were at Tentacles 2008, Trillian, MikeM and myself hosted a seminar about running the web site, and how the internet helps or hinders tabletop roleplaying (plus related topics on player recruitment)!

I was going to release this as part of the 10th Anniversary news, but time ran away and I forgot. ;)

EOS Press Announces forthcoming 'Trail of the Brotherhood' Boardgame

Brad Elliot of EOS Press has issued a Press Release announcing the planned release of the Trail of Cthulhu boardgame by Richard Launius (creator of Arkham Horror). TotB sets one player against the rest as s/he plays a cultist determined to collect cults into 'The Brotherhood' in order to call of the Great Old Ones to earth. The other players must do their utmost to foil the plan.

No date of release has yet been set, but it's expected that the game will cost about $50 (US).

We played an early test version of Trail of the Brotherhood a few years ago and found it quite fun! For further information about the early playtest version of TotB, see the YSDC forum thread: The Trail of the Brotherhood: unpublished CoC Card Game.

Rise of the Dead: First PDF-only MULA Monograph

Chaosium have released Rise of the Dead, a MULA monograph for Call of Cthulhu by Andre Kruppa.

Rise of the Dead is the first PDF-only (so far?) release for their monograph line and features a post-apocalyptic scenario set after a comet enters orbit and (as you may expect) bad things begin to happen...

A Decade of Yog-Sothoth

Well, who would have thought it? Today marks 10 years of the Yog-Sothoth.com web site. It seems like only yesterday I was saying it was five years of YSDC.

These days there are many more people to thank for making 'olde yoggie' what it is, such as moderators, contributors, donators and Community Patrons to name a few, including you, who make this web site endure and grow, year in, year out.

Thank you, and here's to the next decade - we've got many more plans in store...

HPLHS: 'Dunwich Horror' Radio Drama

Following on from their previous audio drama (the well received At the Mountains of Madness), the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society have just released The Dunwich Horror radio drama on both CD and MP3.

The Dunwich Horror features an expanded cast, and music by Troy Sterling Nies (composer for the HPLHS Call of Cthulhu film). The CD version of the 75 minute production also comes with carefully crafted props to add versilimitude to the entertainment.

Chaosium offers more PDFs

Chaosium touched on the subject of PDFs for Call of Cthulhu in Charlie Krank's seminar at Tentacles 2008. Now it seems they've begun to release a few PDF versions of MULA Monographs and the BRP system book.

Over at DriveThruRPG, Chaosium have also released PDF copies of Cthulhu Dark Ages and the Call of Cthulhu 6th edition rulebook.
